Within the next few weeks, RCMP will begin “Operation Cold start”. A uniformed officer in a marked vehicle will be going around the community looking for idling vehicles and checking to see if they are locked/unlocked and leaving this flyer on their windshield. They are hoping to raise awareness to the rising vehicle thefts by reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked when warming, and not leaving valuables inside.

2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan (DRAFT)
On behalf of Council, I am pleased to introduce our DRAFT 2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan.
Over the past several months, Council has worked with Strategic Steps to create this Plan. As a group, we took what we heard during the 2021 municipal election campaign and have turned it into a strategy for the next 4 years, a strategy to grow our community. Before Council approves the Strategic Plan, though, we want to make sure that the community is on board with our Vision.
We need your input!
On Tuesday November 8th, Council will be at Town Hall to meet with the you to hear your thoughts on the Strategic Plan. Please read the DRAFT document and come prepared to share your thoughts and ideas around the strategy. If you can’t make it in person, please see the “Feedback Options” listed below.
Your input is important to help Council set the direction for the next 3 years, and beyond.
Lyndsay Montina, Mayor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 28, 2022
The Town of Coalhurst Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeffrey Coffman as the Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) effective Monday, October 3, 2022.
Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his time as a City of Lethbridge Councillor, Interim Chief Administrative Officer and Sessional Instructor at the University of Lethbridge. Most recently, he held the role of Interim CAO for the Village of Glenwood.
In addition to overseeing town operations, Jeff will work with the Council to recruit and hire a permanent CAO in the coming months.
“Our council looks forward to working with Jeff to move key projects and priorities forward as we look to the growth and long-term success of our community,” says Mayor Lyndsay Montina. “On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Director of Corporate Services, Mike Passey, for his leadership in the capacity of Acting CAO while we move through this transition.”
Please join us in welcoming Jeff as Interim Chief Administrative Officer.
The Constructed Wetland Project will improve storm water infrastructure and functions in the Town of Coalhurst. In 2017, the Town had a Storm Water Management Plan produced by an engineering firm. The Management Plan identified six areas where improvements could be made for dealing with current needs as well as the needs of the Town going into the future.
In 2020, the Storm Outfall Upgrades Project was completed. This replaced the existing outfall line that carries storm water from Coalhurst to the Oldman River. The new outfall line has much greater capacity.
In later Spring 2022, construction on the Constructed Wetland – Main Facility (southern portion) and Lafarge Facility (northern portion) began. The project site for these is on the west side of Range Road 223 between 45th and 55th Avenues. While the southern portion will be a new facility, the northern portion will upgrade an existing facility.
All projects thus far have received Provincial and Federal Grants to complete the work.
Finishing & Landscaping
Main construction is expected to be completed mid-Autumn 2022. All disturbed areas and stockpiles (mounds of excavated earth) will see topsoil placement, seeding, and hydro mulch occurring. This will prevent erosion and foster revegetation. Further landscaping will occur in Spring 2023, the details of which have not been finalized.
The Town intends to install a paved walking path around the Main Facility (southern portion) connecting with Spruce Drive. In the future, the Town will hold Open Houses to hear from residents regarding other recreation initiatives they would like to see in the area. No decisions have been made at this point beyond the paved walking path.
Storm Water Projects in the Future
The remaining proposed projects from Table 2.3 are not actively in the Town’s Capital Plans due to lack of funding. As funding or grants become available, the Town will pursue opportunities that may arise.
Questions or inquiries may be directed to Kevin Lewis, Director of Operations by calling the Town Office – 403-381-3033.
