Information for prospective 2025 election candidates
Are you thinking of becoming a candidate for Coalhurst Town Council? Being a member of Council is a rewarding experience but one that does not come without its challenges. Elected officials have an opportunity to have their voices heard by representing the interests of the residents of Coalhurst. Through governance decisions, members of Council have the opportunity to help shape the future of the municipality.
Time commitment
Being a member of Council involves preparing for and participating in regular and special Council meetings as well as Council committee meetings. This means that your attendance is typically required at three to eight internal meetings per month, some of which are held in the evening, some of which are held during daytime hours, sometimes over the lunch hour. In addition to regular meetings, you will be expected to attend special meetings, sit on internal and external committees, and attend various public meetings and functions. To get an idea of how much time is involved, consider speaking with a current council member.
Term in office
Council members serve a four-year term. This term begins at the first meeting of Council after the election and continues until the first meeting of Council after the next election, unless their offices are vacated sooner.
Election Day
Election day is Monday, October 20, 2025. Voting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. and will take place at the Coalhurst Community Centre.

The Nomination Period runs from January 1, 2025 through to September 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Nomination papers may be submitted at the Town Office any time during regular business hours throughout the Nomination Period.
