The Committee for Recreation & Culture in the Town of Coalhurst announces a new collaborative concept for Recreation and Culture in the Town of Coalhurst.
COVID-19 shut so many things down in the last 18 months, we found a great need to get people together again, at least for the last half of 2021. We needed to get things restarted!
Through the Community Sustainability and Enhancement Committee, a concept was brought forward that would allow and encourage groups and volunteers to get involved in an active way to bring recreational and cultural events and activities to the community.
The Coalhurst Parks and Recreation Society shared this desire as well and were keen to get on-board.
The Committee for Recreation & Culture in the Town of Coalhurst (CRCTC) was formed. This team includes Town Representatives, representatives from the Coalhurst Parks & Recreation Society, and three members-at-large representing Culture, youth and schools, seniors, and residents/businesses in general.
Current committee members are:
Lyndsay Montina, Chair – representative for Coalhurst P&R Soc
Mayor Dennis Cassie – representing Town Council
Deputy Mayor Ron Lagemaat – representing Town Council
Aaron Wolfe – representing Coalhurst P&R Soc
Crystal Good Rider – member-at-large
Kim Horak – member-at-large
Pam Brown – member-at-large
The committee will be the focal point for ideas and discussion of what events and activities should and could take place in the Town. From there, community groups (such as the Coalhurst Parks and Recreation Society, and others as we develop further) will partner in gathering the volunteers needed and in organizing things to make them happen!
Town Council has allocated an interim budget to allow this programming to occur. Proposed items from the Committee requiring budget items must be approved by Council on an individual basis this year, as the program is new for the year. Going forward an annual plan will be created and budgeted accordingly.
We are excited for a strong degree of community engagement – for ideas, for participation, and for volunteering. There will be lots of opportunity for all!
Please feel free to contact the committee through the Town Office (403) 381-3033 or talk with a committee member anytime.
