On behalf of the citizens and Council, I am honoured to welcome you to the Town of Coalhurst. Founded in 1913, Coalhurst has a rich history on the prairies of Alberta as a town that was built on diverse cultures; a community that thrived despite disaster; and as a municipality committed to the growth and development of its people.
Coalhurst is a model of small town rural living, where you can get to know your neighbours, contribute your skills to volunteer and benefit from the rewards of hospitality and community. There are countless opportunities for new comers (as well as seasoned Coalhurstians) to explore and get involved. Whether you chose to help by volunteering or to be an active participant, there are a range of activities and clubs from the Volunteer Fire Department, Miner’s Days Historical Association of Coalhurst, Coalhurst Parks and Recreation Society, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #273 and the Coalhurst 55+ Club to join.
Among many reasons why people are attracted to Coalhurst is the affordability of home ownership, the great sense of community and as a result, an increased quality of life – where you can really get to know your neighbour, contribute to events within the Town and enjoy the peace of small town life.
Coalhurst is a community for families, boasting two top ranked schools in Alberta – Coalhurst Elementary School and Coalhurst High School – excellent educational services just blocks from home. Sports and seasonal activities for children and youth remain an important aspect of our daily lives with the Coulee Kickers Soccer Club, local high school basketball and volleyball teams. Other activities include the YWCA Neighbourhood Play Program, Coalhurst Youth Group and our social and recreational annual festivities of Family Day, Canada Day, Neighbour Day, Miner’s Days and the Family Fun Run.
Above everything else, this is a community where every person can belong. So come out and meet your neighbours, explore our history, parks and schools and enjoy the small town life of Coalhurst – a place to call home!
Dennis F. Cassie,
Mayor of Coalhurst
